Can Carlson gates be used for small children instead of pets?
All Carlson gates have been designed, manufactured and tested for pets only and therefore should not be used for children. If you use your gate in an area where a child is present, the safety of that child is your responsibility.
Are you the only manufacturer that has a small pet door on the gate?
Yes, Carlson is the only pet gate manufacturer that has a built-in pet door that lets smaller pets to pass through while others stay put. Our unique, patent-pending small pet door is just one great feature that sets us apart from all other gate manufacturers.
I just took my gate out of the box and noticed there was a gap between the handle and the gate. Is this a defect?
This is not a defect; it’s just the way your pressure mounted gate looks before it’s installed. Once installed properly, the gate will align and the gap will decrease.
Is it OK to pressure mount my gate into place at the top of a stairway?
When using your gate at the top of stairs the Wall Cups that were included with your gate must be used. Carefully follow the instructions that came with your gate to insure it is properly installed. Improperly installing the gate or only using the pressure mount system could result in the gate becoming unstable or dislodged.
Are the extensions universal for the different models of the Extra Wide gate?
Yes, the 4-inch, 6-inch, 12-inch and 24-inch extensions will fit any model of the Extra Wide gate.
How many extensions can I use on a gate?
For our pressure mounted gates it is strongly recommended that you only use two extensions at a time. If you would like to use more than two extensions, you MUST use the Wall Cups that were included with your gate.
